The Local Men’s National Team has been crowned the runners-up at the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone `A’ tournament in Senegal after defeating Guinea-Bissau 1-0 in the third-place match on Saturday night. Barrack Young controller’s forward Van-Dave Harmon scored the only goal of the match half an hour into the game.
Liberia was awarded second-place after The Gambia refused to play for extra time after their goaless tie against Senegal in the final. After regulation time ended 0-0, Liberian referee Jerry Yekeh ordered for extra time to be played but The Gambia refused to play claiming they were told that penalties would decide the winner after the 90 minutes in the event of a tie.
Due to their refusal to play, they were automatically disqualified from the competition which meant Senegal were crowned Champions, Liberia finished in second place, and Guinea-Bissau finished in third place.
