After a two-year hiatus, the Women’s League of the Liberia Football Association, the Cellcom Women’s Division, began over the weekend with four exciting matches.
Week 1 started on Friday with the 2014/15 champions Earth Angels and Determined Girls playing to a goalless draw.
In the first match on Saturday, Pro Sisters and debutants Naskids FC played to a 1-1 draw. Ophelia Tobay scored the match opener for Naskids in the 31st minute before Satta Morris equalized for Pro Sisters in the 70th minute.
In the second match on Saturday, World Girls shocked Island Queens with a 3-0 win. Josephine Palipue started the onslaught in the 39th minute before Nancy Williams and Miatta Morris added to the Queens’ misery in the 60th and 80th minute, respectively.
Week 1 ended on Sunday with Senior Pro thrashing Blanco FC 4-1. Miatta Zinnah (19th minute) and Bernice Willie (30th minute) gave Senior Pro a two-goal lead in the first half before Amelia Washington added the third in the 70th minute. Love Koffa pulled one back for Blanco FC a minute later but Bernice Willie completed her brace with another goal in the 88th minute to squash any hope of a come-back for Blanco FC.
