Two late goals from Barrack Young Controllers II could not help the club secure qualification to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Rounds at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on Sunday.
The Liberian side put up a spirited performance to defeat their classic opponents Kawkab Marrakech of Morocco 2-0 in the presence of Chief Patron of Sport President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf however BYC II bowed out 3-2 on aggregate.
Orlando George opened the scoring for BYC II in the 79th minute from a 25-yard shot that beat the Moroccan goalkeeper. Prince Kennedy doubled BYC II’s lead in the 88th minute from the penalty spot. A late surge of attack from the home side to take the tie to extra time was resisted by the Moroccan who progressed after an impressive 3-0 home win few days ago.
BYC II had earlier had a 28th minute penalty missed and a goal disallowed for offside in the 68th minute. The defeat ends Liberian clubs participation in this year’s CAF Club competition.
Nimba United lost the African Champions league preliminary round matches to Union Sportive Doula of Cameroon 4-0 on aggregate. The mountaineers were beaten 3-0 at home and suffered a 1-0 away defeat.
